Exploring Infant feeding.
PUBLIC ART COMMISSION.
Kent Family Hubs, Public Health.
I led a team of Playground Artists working with families in Kent Family Hubs. From consultation sessions with carer’s on their infant feeding experiences I created a textile artwork. The work contains an interactive element, six poems written by poet and Playground Artist Natalie Thomas, it is activated by gently stroking the fabric pads to hear the individual poems.
The circular textile piece represents the unbroken cycle of carer and baby when feeding, the safe space for holding and nurturing. It is made from a pre loved orange wool blanket, orange is the colour for communication and hunger. The different fabric pads show the changes to the colour and textures of the skin after giving birth, (contrasting with the softness of baby’s skin), the pads are stuffed with New Romney wool, (New Romney Family Hub was a consultation and touring destination).
The artwork toured 14 Kent Family Hubs from May to December 2025.
