Exploring Infant feeding.

PUBLIC ART COMMISSION.

Kent Family Hubs, Public Health.

I led a team of Playground Artists who met with families in Family Hubs across Kent to talk about their infant feeding experiences. Artist Natalie Thomas used their thoughts to create a series of six poems which are activated by gently stroking the fabric pads on the installation.

The circular textile piece represents the unbroken cycle of carer and baby when feeding, the safe space for holding and nurturing. It is made from a pre loved orange wool blanket, orange is the colour for communication and hunger. The different fabric pads show the changes to the colour and textures of the skin after giving birth, (contrasting with the softness of baby’s skin), the pads are stuffed with New Romney wool, New Romney Family Hub is one of the consultation and touring destinations.

The artwork will tour 14 Kent Family Hubs from May to December 2025.
